Streaming means watching video in ‘real time’ rather than downloading a file to your computer or tablet and watching it later.
A webinar is a live meeting that takes place over the web. The meeting can be a presentation, discussion, demonstration, or instructional session. Participants can view documents and applications via their computers, while shared audio allows for presentation and discussion
A webcast may either be distributed live or on demand. Essentially, webcasting is “broadcasting” over the Internet.” A webcast uses streaming media technology to encode an event and distribute it to many simultaneous listeners/viewers.

Streaming relies on your internet connection to run fast enough to show the video in real time. An event encoded for streaming is highly compressed to use as little bandwidth as possible.

If there is an interruption due to congestion on the internet, the video should automatically lower in quality, if there is a complete loss of internet the stream will stop and the screen will go blank

To minimise this problem, your computer stores 2-3 seconds of video as a ’buffer’ before you start watching. If there’s a drop-out this pre-stored video is played until there is no more in the buffer, then it usually stops and display a message – ’buffering’ – while it catches up.

To stream an event you need to use an encoder.

An encoder takes a video and audio signal and streams the feed to a CDN ( Content Distribution Network) such as Facebook or YouTube

We use and hire a Tricaster encoder and also a mobile LiveStream HD550 encoder to stream an event
